Alejandro Caicedo is an Associate Professor in the Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism. Originally trained in Germany and France as a physiologist in the field of sensory neurobiology, Alejandro Caicedo came to the University of Miami in 1997 to work as a postdoctoral fellow in Dr. Stephen Roper’s laboratory. In 2005, he joined Dr. Per-Olof Berggren at the Diabetes Research Institute to direct the Islet Physiology laboratory. He established his independent laboratory in 2010 at the Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism. Alejandro Caicedo is currently funded by the NIH to study the role of innervation in human islet biology and its impact on glucose homeostasis.
